Salvage preparations commenced
Two days after the "Dattaram I" from Vasco capsized alongside the "Maria Laura I" off the Mormuago Port Trust and sank in a water depth of 15 meters three miles off the MPT breakwater, the Indian Caost Guard was mainaining a vigil in the vicinity of the sinking site of the 70-m-barge. The MPT was fully geared up while the owner started preparations to raise the wreck and asked for tenders of salvage companies. The wreck was not in the navigational channel and thus unlikely to pose any danger to other ships. The barge was being loaded with iron ore which had been imported for the Shiroda-based Mandovi Pallets. The crew of nine saved themselves just before the barge sank. The insurance company has appointed Ericson & Richards as the surveyor. The barge had on board 1.500 lires of HSD which remained lockeed in the airtight fuel container aboard.

The 70-meter barge "Dattaram I", owner Mayur Arolka, which was carrying 1,600 tonne of imported iron ore capsized on April 29, 2019, at 10 p.m. at the outer anchorage of Mormuago in a water depth of 15 meters. The vessel had just taken the cargo of the "Maria Laura 1" and began to take in water in rouge waves of 2,5 meters height 7-8 miles off Vasco. The crew of nine saved themselves onto the "Maria Laura 1". The barge had only little amounts of diesel on board. Port authorities were working to limit the damae. Salvage surveyors were to assess the situation on April 30. The barge of Mayur Arolkar was fully insured.
