Mon Mar 15 10:40:36 CET 2010 Timsen

The "Lady Alla" is likely to get clearance to enter Nagai port as soon as all pending legal issues have been resolved. Following a legal dispute between the ship owner and a few foreign oil firms, the Bombay High Court in February 2010 passed orders to the Indian ports not to permit the ship to be anchored. On February 11, the vessel came to the private port carrying about 8,400 tonnes of ceramic clay. As the authorities denied entry, the vessel was illegally anchored about five miles away from the port. Meanwhile, 17 crewmembers of the vessel filed another petition in the Madras High Court for orders to the ship owner to settle their salary dues. On March 1, 2010, the Madras High Court ordered the arrest of the ship. Subsequently, on humanitarian grounds, crewmembers were provided with food and water. The ship owner has approached the Madras High Court to annul its arrest order.
