Guard ship suffered steering failure
The Cromer lifeboat station was paged on March 30, 2019, at 9.30 p.m. after the "Isla B"’s steering failed. The offshore lifeboat "Lester" was launched at 9.45 p.m. and asked to assist the ex-trawler into harbour at Great Yarmouth. The ship was originally going to come into Great Yarmouth assisted by the lifeboats from Cromer and Gorleston but the harbour wouldn’t allow her inside past 1 a.m. The decision was made that she couldn’t get in to Lowestoft and she was told to drop anchor two miles off Great Yarmouth. The captain decided to overrule and wanted to go it to its home port, Whitstable, with emergency steering. The ship was handed over to the Gorleston lifeboat which was called at 11 p.m. and escorted it to Lowestoft with the Cromer boat following at the stern, where it was going to anchor and try to get it repaired or go on down to Whitstable in Kent. The Cromer lifeboat stood down as the convoy approached Hemsby and Caister. The Gorleston boat stood down at 2 a.m.
