Beached by the storm, Black sea
Turkish freighter Hakki Cillioglu was beached by the storm on June 20 or 19 2012 in Pitsunda port, Abkhazia, Black sea. It is understood vessel was moored at berth for refueling, mooring lines broke, and vessel drifted on the beach. Vessel is staying in Abkhazia waters from May 2011, calling Sukhumi port after steering mechanism failure. The crew wasn’t paid for quite a time and now there are only 8 crew on board, vessel ran out of fuel. Nearby Turkish freighter Apsini (IMO 7364601) tried to take Hakki Cillioglu on tow two times, but failed as cables got broke. Cargo ship grounded off Pitsunda
The "Hakki Chillioglu" ran aground near Pitsunda during fuelling of the ship. In a storm the ship got stuck aground 150 meters from a pier. Another cargo ship that was standing nearby was trying to help the crew, but a storm did not allow a rescue operation. At present the ship is left without fuel which would be needed to drop the anchors. The Abkhazian side turned to the Russian side for help since they have no equipment to tow the cargo ship off.
