Troubled ferry towed to wharf
The "Tustna" serving between Tidsdal and Linge got in trouble in the afternoon of July 27, 2015, on the Storfjord. The ship had problems with the cooling water system and went adrift at 4.30 p.m. in the middle of the fjord. The ferry "Aukra" took the ship alongside and towed it to the wharf in Eidsdal. During that time only the "Geiranger" maintained the ferry traffic. At 5 p.m. the "Tustna" was docked inside Valldal, but it was hoped she would be back on July 28. Third ferry inserted on Hasvik-route
After the trouble with the Øksfjord - Hasvik ferries, a third ferry was inserted on Dec 6. The "Hasfjord" will carry the cars and goods but is slower and also has other missions to do. There was no word when the "Åfjord" or "Tustna" would be operational again after the series of mishaps and problems with both ships. The company Fjord1 was criticised from the population and the mayor of the Hasvik municipality, after the accident on board the "Tustna", but the company says that the ferry was justifiable and met the requirements of the Norwegian Maritime Directorate for the ferry route. It turned out that the concrete mixers that overturned when the ferry approached Hasvik were not secured during the trip. The skipper had made an assessment before the tour began and considered that it was not necessary to implement safety measures. The police has launched an investigation into the incident and boarded the ferry to obtain the relevant documents. The consequences could have been even more severe. There were three people on the deck who managed to escape through a door when the trucks tipped over. On Dec 5 the "Tustna" additionally suffered an engine malfunction. More trouble for Tustna
After she was rectified, the "Tustna" left Alta bound to Øksfjord in the morning of Dec 4, but had to turn around as the employees of the ferry route between Øksfjord and Hasvik were not allowed to do so because of driving and rest regulations. Passengers had to stay in hotels in the night and it was expected that the ferry would take up its regular route on Dec 5 morning. But just 20 minutes later the ferry had to turn around and return to Alta again because of an engine malfunction.
