35 migrants rescued off Equihen-Plage
In the morning of June 20, the CROSS Gris-Nez was informed of a migrant boat with engine trouble in the Equihen-Plage sector. Two people, including one wearing a lifejacket, were in the water near the boat, about 500 meters from the shore. The CROSS diverted a nearby fishing as well as an EC135 helicopter from the national gendarmerie in flight in the area, the semi-rigid of the emergency tug 'Abeille Liberté' and the 'Laplace'. The first person in the water returns to the beach on his own. The second person was picked up by the diverted fishing vessel and transferred aboard the 'Abeille Liberté'. At the same time, the 'Laplace' provided assistance to the castaways who remained on board the boat, which was disabled and adrift. The ship recovered 33 additional persons and dropped them off at the port of Boulogne-Sur-Mer.
Several migrant boats in trouble
In the night of June 10 the CROSS Gris Nez was informed that a boat was in difficulty off the beach at Sainte-Cécile and deployed a Dauphin helicopter of the French Navy, the emergency tug 'Abeille Normandie' and the 'Laplace', which recovered 38 castaways, including one person in a state of hypothermia. The CROSS then informed the maritime medical coordination service in Le Havre. All castaways were taken care of by the departmental fire and rescue service and the border police after the arrival in port. In the morning of June 11, the CROSS Gris-Nezwas informed of a boat in difficulty off Le Touquet. Five people wearing life jackets were in the water near the boat. The semi-rigid 'Triton' of the National Police recovered two of them in a state of hypothermia. They were taken care of by the SDIS 62. The three other people returned to the shore by their own means. The CROSS then deployed the customs boat 'Jacques Oudart Fourmentin' and the 'Abeille Normandie' to a troubled boat, which picked up 27 shipwrecked peopleand dropped them off at the port of Boulogne-sur-Mer where they were taken care of by the SDIS 62 and the border police.
150 migrants rescued in several missions
In the morning and during the day of Feb 22, 2023, the CROSS Gris-Nez was informed that several boats were in difficulty in the Strait of Pas-de-Calais. The mine hunter 'Thétis' rescued 39 shipwrecked people, including two sick people. Given the latter's state of health, the 'Thétis' contacted the CROSS, which set up a conference call with the maritime medical coordination service in Le Havre. A medical evacuation was recommended, and the CROSS then engaged the lifeboat 'SNS 276-Notre-Dame-des-Flandres' of the SNSM station in Gravelines, which picked up the two patients and dropped them off at the quay at Gravelines where they were taken care of by firefighters. The 'Thétis' brought the 37 others to the port of Calais where they were taken care of by the departmental fire and rescue operational center and the border police. The 'Laplace' of the French Navy rescued 26 shipwrecked people. The castaways were dropped off at the port of Boulogne-sur-Mer. The emergency tug 'Abeille Normandie' rescued 40 shipwrecked people and dropped them off at the port of Boulogne-sur-Mer. The patrol boat 'Jeanne Barret' rescued 45 shipwrecked people and dropped them off at the port of Boulogne-sur-Mer.
