Portsmouth International Port begins multimillion-pound berth extension
Portsmouth International Port is set to welcome 150,000 cruise passengers each year following the completion of its multimillion-pound berth extension project, which has just been started in collaboration with construction firm Knights Brown. The renovation will include levelling out the cruise berth and building an additional dolphin. As a result, ships up to 255 metres in length will be able to safely and conveniently berth at the port.
Brittany Ferries extends partnership with Portsmouth
Brittany Ferries has extended its partnership with Portsmouth International Port, UK, adding five years to a joint long-term agreement which will now end in 2031. Between now and then, Brittany Ferries will add three new ships to its fleet which will sail to Europe. As of 2021, Galicia and Salamanca will join LNG-powered sister ship Honfleur to homeport in Portsmouth. The new ferries will not only increase freight numbers, but also the number of tourists using the service.
Portsmouth receives £18 million to transform cruise port
Portsmouth International Port has received an £18 million (US$24 million) investment, which will be used to fund upgrade facilities and enable ships carrying up to 2,000 passengers to berth at the port. The funding has been granted to help the port capitalise on significant opportunities to grow its cruise business. In 2018, the city welcomed 48 calls and has plans for over 100 in the coming years.
