Temporary reception of asylum seekers ship will not be extended

The temporary reception on the 'Fortuna' as asylum seekers ship in the port of Huizen will not be extended. The request from the Central Agency for the Reception of Asylum Seekers (COA) to keep thevessel open longer was rejected by the municipality after residents expressed their concerns. The reception location will stop from May 1, 2023. At the beginning of February it was announced that the COA had submitted a request for the extension of the temporary shelter on the 'Fortuna'. The municipality did not reject. Although the arrival of the asylum seekers' ship in Oct 2022 was received positively by the residents of Huizen, there was still criticism from the residents when it became clear that the municipality was willing to accept the request for an extension because a longer stay of the asylum seekers vessel was against the agreement. Local residents were afraid that groups of asylum seekers would go outside in the summer and cause a nuisance.

Near miss on the IJ

On Sep 11, 2018, the "Vista Explorer" was in a near miss with the barge "Pro-Contra", 1821 ts (EU-No.: 06003465 MMSI-No.: 244690714), on the IJ in Amsterdam. The incident took place on the north side of the river in the afternoon near the passenger jetty for river cruisers. The "Vista Explorer" suddenly made a radical turn to port side. The barge could avoid a collision only by immediatly going astern and starting an evasive manoever of the last moment. The skipper has filed a complaint with the Port of Amsterdam. The port authority was investigating the near-collision.
