Container ship disabled off Southampton
The 'Escape' with a crew of 15 and a cargo of 3.974 tons containers on board reported an engine failure, caused by not enough pressure in the oil vein fitting, on Oct 29, 2019, at 5.45 p.m. About 10 minutes later, they were able to restart the engine. However, the ship anchored to carry out necessary repairs, and has requested an engineer from the company to attend on board in order to assist. The ship which was enroute from Rotterdam to Southampton, was moored in position 50 36 26.0 N, 001 00 58.0 W. The Southampton VTS stated that due to the weather conditions with 4-5 Beaufort winds, an engineer would probably not get on board until Oct 31. Instead the towing company Lomax was to attend the vessel on Oct 30 at 7 a.m. with an aim to get a pilot on board by 8 a.m. The intention was to get alongside at the berth in Southampton. At 1 p.m. the 'Escape' was approaching the port, attended by the 'Lomax' (IMO: 9657832).
