Containers were leaking hazardous substances
The Human Environment and Transport Inspectorate (ILT) removed nine containers with hazardous substances from the "Anne Sibum" at the Euromaxx Terminal in Rotterdam on March 24, 2019. A corrosive substance was leaking from six of the nine containers on the ship. The leakage in combination with other substances could have caused a dangerous chemical reaction. The packaging did not comply with the regulations and the substances were much more dangerous than stated in the papers. A cleanup service has cleaned the ship at the expense of the carrier. The containers were stored in a terminal in Rotterdam. They will only be released when the carrier has met a number of conditions. For the transport of the substances, the carrier must, among other things, ensure the correct classification with corresponding prescribed packaging and correctly completed documents stating which substances are involved. The vessel had sailed from Coryton on March 23 at 6.30 p.m. and arrived in the Maasvlakte on March 24 at 11 p.m. before proceeding further to Sweden. On March 26 at 6.15 a.m. the "Anne Sibum" shifted to the ECT Delta Container Terminal in the Amazone Port and at 8.15 p.m. headed to its next destination, which was Gothenburg with an ETA as of March 28 at 5 a.m.
