Collision in Quanzhou Bay
On May 30, 2014, the "Hanjin Ningbo", which was coming from the Cat Lai Container Terminal in Ho Chi Minh City and was bound for Kwangyang, was in collision with the Chinese general cargo vessel "Fortuna 98" which was en route from Lianyungang to Zhuhai, in the Quanzhou Bay in the Taiwan Strait about 20 miles southeast of Xingzhi. The Chinese freighter was hit at the port side bow and suffered a breach with ensuing water ingress in a ballast water tank and subsequent loss of power. The crew of seven abandoned the vessel and was recovered by the crew of 20 aboard the "Hanjin Ningbo". The Quanzhou Maritime Bureau resonded to the accident, which happened in a visibility of one mile, it launched an emergency plan and dispatched the "East China Sea Rescue 113". The ships were not detached from each other to keep the "Fortuna 98" from sinking. On May 31 at 9 p.m., the "Fortuna 98" was towed to Shek Wu port after having been stabilized and reinforced. It was planned to take the ship tothe Yue Yun shipyard in Shi Shi City on June 1. In the afternoon of June 4 the "Hanjin Ningbo" remained anchored off the Quanzhou Bay, waiting for the marine accident investigation.
