Engine trouble off Land's End
The "SFL Medway", en route from Newport, UK, to Antwerp with a crew of 19 on board, suffered problems with its main engine unit No. 5, approximately 22,5 nautical miles North of Land's End, in position 050 42.46 N, 005 52.46 W, on July 7, 2018, at 11.40 a.m. The crew expected to need approximately eight hours to affect repairs. The vessel had 13.323 tonnes of steel coils as cargo. The Falmouth Coastguard was maintaining hourly communication and updates with the vessel. After repairs were completed the vessel resumed sailing, ETA July 8.
Two crew members taken off in Bermuda
The "SFL Medway" disembarked two crew members – one who suffered a head injury and one with fever like symptoms - to Bermuda in order to receive medical attention. The Bermuda Maritime Operations Centre was coordinating the medical evacuation from the bulk carrier´. On Feb 21 2017, the Bermuda Maritime Operations Centre was advised that the ship was inbound to Bermuda. Following medical advice from shore and continued treatment onboard, the vessel was advised to make best speed towards Bermuda. The ship which was 571 miles northeast of Bermuda, had departed Gibraltar bound for Mobile, Alabama. The pilot boat "St. George" transferred the patients to shore on Feb 22, from where they were taken by ambulance to the King Edward VII Memorial Hospital.
