Stormy weather delayed call at Hamburg

Tue Nov 19 10:05:01 CET 2024 Timsen

The HMS "Queen Elizabeth" has finally entered the port of Hamburg on the afternoon of Nov 18, 2024. Due to gusts of wind on the North Sea, the arrival, which was actually planned for the morning, was delayed. The ship is scheduled to remain in Steinwerder until Nov 23. It is taking part in a NATO manoever. The aircraft carrier moored at the Steinwerder cruise terminal because the water police can shield the warship particularly well there. The homeland security company of the Hamburg State Command is also to secure the ship and the area in Steinwerder. Hamburg's mayor Peter Tschentscher (SPD) will boar the ship with a delegation on Nov 18. On the same day, a Senate reception is planned in the Senate guest house in honor of the visit. A program in Hamburg was planned for the crew. In addition to city and port tours, there will be a visit to the International Maritime Museum. Helicopter of aircraft carrier crashed during exercise

Fri Sep 06 11:50:36 CEST 2024 Timsen

A member of the Royal Navy has died after a helicopter crashed in the English Channe on a training exercise on Sep 4, 2024. An investigation into the crash will be launched. The incident involved a Merlin Mk4 helicopter near Dorset that ditched while conducting night flying exercises with HMS 'Queen Elizabeth'. There were no other fatalities or serious injuries. It is believed that three crew members were onboard the helicopter at the time of the crash. The two other members of the Royal Navy were taken to hospital. The body of the third crew member, who has not yet been identified, was recovered from the scene.

Repairs in Rosyth completed

Tue Jul 23 12:23:28 CEST 2024 Timsen

The HMS 'Queen Elizabeth' has completed repairs at Rosyth and sailed on July 22. The warship was due to take to the North Sea for NATO’s largest mission since the Cold War, Steadfast Defender, but a fault to the propeller shaft was discovered in February. In March, the ship set sail from Portsmouth to Rosyth, and will now undertake trials.
