Vittorio M became Barlovento Express
The Directorate General of the Spanish Merchant Navy has authorized the change of name of the “Vittorio M” to “Barlovento Express”, and it is thus registered in the naval registry of Santa Cruz de Tenerife —which is its original registry, since its debut as “Milenium Dos”— in the new stage of this ship, chartered on a long-term basis by Fred. Olsen Express to the Italian company Liberty Lines. The ship is berthed at the Astican Yard since Dec 2, 2024, where it arrived from Algeciras painted with the corporate image of Trasmediterránea and where it is undergoing various works to adapt it to the standards of Fred. Olsen Express, as well as the replacement of the stern ramp.
Migrant hid in ship's engine
On its way from Ceuta to Algeciras (Cádiz) the 'Millenium Dos' had to stop on Jan 13, 2020, short time after it had left Ceuta at 9.30 a.m. one mile off the port, when the crew discovered a Maghreb immigrant hidden next to the ship's engines. The captain had to stop due to the risk to his physical integrity, and gave notice to the Maritime Service of the Civil Guard. A boat proceeded to rescue the immigrant, who was transferred to the city's marina. The immigrant, being in good health, was sent to the National Police units to determine if he was a Moroccan - in which case he will be expelled - or an Algerian, who would be taken to the Temporary Immigrant Stay Center (CETI). The ship arrived at the port of Algeciras about 25 minutes late.
