Sander 2 cleared to sail to repair yard
On June 27 at 8 a.m. the "Sander 2" left Wilhelmshaven boudn for a repair yard in Esbjerg after the ship was cleared to sail again. The master and the technical director of the owner company had to pay safety fines of 13.100 Euro before. The latter had to pay 5.000 Euro, the master 4.000 Euro and the Chief Engineer a sum of 2.000 Euro, 1.000 Euro had to be paid for the investigations and probing of samples. The Danish police was requested to continue the investigations at the yard regarding the exact technical issues and to support the German authorities in this regard.
Sander 2 caused small oil spill
On June 25, 2012, the "Sander 2" caused an oil spill in the port of Wilhelmshaven. The ship had suffered a leakage at the steering gear. Witnesses remarked intensive smell of oil in the early morning and an oil film on the water. The police found out that the oil leaked out of the "Sander 2" which had sheltered from a strom enroute Esberg - Norderney. The fire brigade Wilhelmshaven was called and laid out oil booms. They were able to recover most of the oil. The ship was detained until it is safe to sail again. The police launched an investigation.
