Person fell over board

Mon Jun 06 14:46:35 CEST 2022 Timsen

On June 5, 2022, at 2 a.m. the 'Azamara Quest', en route from Barcelona, informed the MRCC in Palma de Mallorca of a person who fell into the water 75 miles off Mallorca. The SAR helicopters Helimer 206 and Helimer 223 have been deployed to search for the person along with the cruise ship and the SAR vessel 'Guardamar Concepción Arenal'. On May 6 the 'Azamara Quest' berthed in Malaga. Despite the intense search throughout the day, the “middle-aged” woman whose identity has not yet been identified was not found.

Report on incident in Tory Channel

Sun May 13 12:59:48 CEST 2018 Timsen

The Transport Accident Investigation Commission released their findings on the incident involving the "Azamara Quest" on May 3, 2018. Investigators found that the bridge team had a misunderstanding of the plan for the vessel to make the turn into Tory Channel because the details of how the turn would be made and the influence the tide would have on the ship during the turn had not been clearly communicated. The Master and Pilot exchanged information and discussed the passage plan through Tory Channel to Picton. Due to the master and pilot having a miscommunication, the turn was initiated late and the ship never achieved a sufficient rate of turn to avoid contacting the Wheki Rock close to the northern shoreline. The vessel struck the rock, causing minor damage to the hull and damage to one propeller.

Miscommunication blamed for cruise ship hitting rock in Marlborough Sounds in 2016

Thu May 03 09:51:34 CEST 2018 arnekiel

A cruise ship crash onto rocks in the Marlborough Sounds was triggered by confusion between the bridge and the pilot who was guiding it, a maritime investigation has found. The incident resulted in cruise ships being banned from taking the same routes as Cook Strait ferries. In January 2016, the Picton-bound, Maltese-flagged Royal Caribbean cruise ship Azamara Quest struck Wheki Rock after entering Tory Channel with a Port Marlborough pilot on board. https://www.stuff.co.nz/travel/travel-troubles/103611698/miscommunication-blamed-for-cruise-ship-hitting-rock-in-marlborough-sounds
