Barge lost foundation poles for wind farm

Mon Nov 07 18:37:50 CET 2016 Timsen

On Nov 7, 2016, a barge towed by the "Viking" lost two foundation poles of a wind farm with 40 meters length and a diameter of 7-8 meters off Rügen. The convoy was enroute from Szczecin to Nordenham. The cargo had shifted in rough seas with winds of 5-6 Beaufort. The cargo was lost about nine miles off Stubbenkammer. The anti pollution vessel "Arkona" tried to locate the cargo on a water depth of 30 to 40 meters. Ship traffic was advised to keep clear from the area as the Position of the poles was unclear. The "Viking" returned to Szczecin. The convoy reached the anchorage of Szczecin in the morning of Nov 8. They were assisted by the tugs "Euros" (IMO: 7041546) and "Fairplay V" (IMO: 8306668) into the port, ETA at noon. There was no threat for the environment. A sheerleg was to recover the poles once the weather has subsided. Another convoy with wind farm constructions parts sheltered off Denmark.
