Disabled cargo ship pulled to Saint Malo
Short after having lost one crew member after having sailed from Rotterdam on Dec 20, the "Victoriaborg" was disabled due to rudder failure 120 nautical miles off the tip of Corsen on Dec 23. The tug "Multratug 20" was called from Ghent on Dec 24 and reached the cargo ship at 7:00 a.m. The "Victoriaborg" was taken in tow by the tug with the intent to reach the port of Rotterdam. The sea condtions remained very difficult, and on Dec 27 around 6:30 p.m. the wire broke. The "Multratug 20" headed to Brest and docked on Dec 28 at 10.30 a.m. Now the tug "Christos XXII" was called and reached the "Victoriaborg" on Dec 28 at 7:00 a.m. after a transit of eight hours and took the vessel in tow at 9:00 a.m. towards Brest for repairs in the northern traffic separating zone. The master decided to take the route along the north coast to Roscoff, to be sheltered from the wind and wait for better weather conditions. But due to the deteriorating weather conditions, the captain of cargo ship and the owner asked to proceed to the port of Saint-Malo. Conditions on sea were southwest winds of 12-20 knots and wave heights of 5 to 6 meters. The convoy was expected in Saint Malo in the night of Jan 2, 2014. The "Victoriaborg", which loaded with steel, was taken on tow by the "Christos XXII" on Dec 24. It was decided to tow the vessel, which was loaded with steel, to Saint-Malo with an ETA of Jan 1, 2014.
