Medevac following pirate attack
After the pirate attack on the 'Zhen Hua 7' in the Gulf of Guinea on Nov 14, the Italian Navy frigate «Federico Martinengo» came to the vessel’s assistance and rescued an injured crew member. The ship was boarded by pirates on Nov 13 about 80 miles northeast of the island of Sao Tome. 14 out of her 27 crewmembers were kidnapped, all of them Chinese nationals. After the attack, the fregate made way towards the vessel and established communications. The 'Zhen Hua 7’s crew reported that the pirates had departed with the abductees and that one crewmember was injured and in need of assistance. The victim had been shot in the leg. A boarding team was transferred in a RIB to sweep the ship and ensure its safety. A medical team followed suit and helped to stabilize the victim for transport. The frigate’s helicopter transferred him safely to Sao Tome for further treatment. On Nov 16 the 'Zhen Hua 7' arrived in Luba port.
Heavy load carrier boarded by pirates - 14 hostages
The 'Zhen Hua 7' was attacked by pirates on Mov 13, 2020, when the ship was 78 nautical miles northwest of Sao Tome in the Gulf of Guinea. 14 crew members on board were confirmed to have been kidnapped by the pirates. One crew member was injured. The vessel was being escorted to the next port of call. The attack was the eighth in the Gulf of Guinea in just nine days, bringing the number of kidnappings in the Gulf of Guinea to 21 this year. 95 crew members have so far been held hostage for shorter or longer periods of time.
