All safe afer engine room fire
In the late afternoon of June 13, 2021, the 'Zenit' reported a fire in the engine room off the Tremiti coast. The ferry was sailing from the Tremiti Islands to Termoli with 64 passengers on board. It was about 14 miles from the port of Termoli. The patrol boat 'CP 878' was deployed by the Port Authority of Termoli. The initial attempts to put out the fire were unsuccessful, so the Harbour Master asked the 'Amalfi Jet' which was sailing on the same route to take the passengers on board. The ship continued to the Tremiti Islands where it embarked numerous passengers waiting to return to Termoli, returning at about 9.50 p.m. At the same time, the port tug 'Corigliano' was requested to assist as well as a surveillance aircraft of the Coast Guard under the coordination of the Maritime Directorate of Pescara. The disabled ship was towed into the port of Termoli, where it arrived at 11.50 p..m., escorted by the Coast Guard patrol boat. The ferry was safely moored at the southeast pier of the port of Termoli. The Fire Brigade boarded the 'Zenit' to verify that the fire was completely extinguished. Investigations were launched by the Port Authority of Termoli to ascertain the cause of the fire.
