Wheelhouse destroyed in allision
The "Zehdenick", 2000 ts (EU-No.: 6003632) allided with a bridge spanning the Mosel at Schweich in the morning of Jan 3, 2012. The wheelhouse was torn off and pushed astern, a car which was stored behind the wheelhouse plunged into the river. The Mosel had to be closed some hours until the afternoon during which the car was searched. The car was salvaged 600 metres off the accident site after it was traced with Sonar from a water depth of six metres. The ship had unloaded a cargo of oil in Trier and was heading towards the Rhine. The tanker was moored some kilometers downstream off the Detzem lock. The high water level and strong winds may have contributed to the accident. Also the bridge was closed temporarily, but meanwhile found to be stable.
