Patrol ship caught yacht with 10 migrants on board

In the afternoon Dec 2, 2023, the 'Zeearend' noticed a sailing yacht during a regular patrol approximately 55 kilometers west of IJmuiden at that time on its way to England and carried out a check on board. When a hatch to the cabin was opened with the permission of the two crew members, ten more people were found there. The sailing yacht has been seized and the ten smuggled people of different nationalities have entered the immigration process. The two suspects in the smuggling will remain in pre-trial detention for longer. A 39-year-old man from Den Helder and a 29 year old man without a permanent place of residence will remain in custody for at least another 60 days. The request for suspension of the pre-trial detention of the pair has therefore been rejected by the council chamber of the North Holland District Court.
