Freighter allided with gas platform off Ravenna
Short time after the 'Zaanborg' left Ravenna in the evening of Jan 15,2020, bound for Piraeus, the ship allided with the ENI gas platform 'Agip 1' about 3.5 miles off the port. The ship returned to Ravenna where she berthed at the Porto Corsini Cruise Terminal at 2.50 p.m. where the habrour master detained the ship for investigations. The captaincy questioned both the captain and the first officer regarding a violation of articles 1123 and 1231 of the Navigation Code. The Wagenborg company entrusted their defense by two talian lawyers. The cause of the allision was unknown, the ship had a port pilot on board, and visibility initially was good but decreased after the departure. As of Jan 18, the ship was still in port. The platform wasn’t operating, and the extent of damages was yet unknown. She was to be boarded for inspections on Jan 18. There was no pollution after the impact. The 'Zaanborg' suffered svere damages in the forecastle area at port side and the bow tip with a breach of several meters, deep scratches and dents. The ship entered the Rosetti Marino SpA Yard San Vitale in Ravennna-Piombino on Jan 20 at 5 p.m. fore repairs of the hull damage. The ship sailed again on Feb 18 at 3.45 p.m. and headed to Bandirma, where it called from Feb 22-23, before proceeding tpo Piraeus, ETA Feb 24.
