Man medevaced after crushing his hand
Eastbourne RNLI’s all-weather lifeboat "Diamond Jubilee" medevace an injured crew man in the night of Nov 27, 2012, who had been hurt aboard the "Mare Nostru" 16 miles off Sovereign Harbour. The vessel was fishing between the busy shipping lanes off Eastbourne when a crewman crushed his hand whilst hauling nets. In need of urgent medical attention the vessel’s skipper contacted Dover Coastguard to request assistance. Eastbourne’s new Tamar class lifeboat was soon under way using all of her 26 knot capability to rush to the casualty. The injured crewman was taken aboard the "Diamond Jubilee". Once back in Sovereign Harbour the casualty was passed to a waiting ambulance and taken to Eastbourne DGH. The lifeboat was refuelled and ready for service at 1 a.m.
