Fishing vessel saved crew of upturned yacht
In the night of Aug 11, 2014, the crew of the "Alles Wisselt" saved the crew of the Belgian 6,5-m-yacht "Uccello" which had capsized off Knokke on Aug 10 at 7 p.m. The three men from Liège had saved themselves onto the hull of the boat which had turned bottom up all in a sudden in waves of up to eight meters. Only at 4.30 a.m. a merchant ship remarked the castaways and raised alarm. The "Alles Wisselt" was one of two fishing vessels which were nearby. The hypothermic men could be pulled aboard. The Blankenberg Sea Rescue dispatched scthe “Zeebrugge 431” and “Vlissingen 27”. 10 minutes later also the lifeboat “Sterke Dries” left the port and was on scene at 4:06 a.m. The castaways were wrapped in blankets and hoisted aboard a Sea King MK 48 helicopter which had a medical aboard. They were taken to the AZ Sint-Jan hospital in Brugge zu fliegen. The “Sterke Dries” tried to take the yacht in tow, but the first attempt failed, and a resuce swimmer had to climb the hull and fix a towing wire. The tow was later taken over by the tug "Zeehond" which pulled the yacht to Zeebrugge where it was lifted out of the water.
