Seaspan Accepts Delivery of 14000 TEU SAVER Containership
Seaspan Corporation announced today that it has accepted delivery of the YM Wind, a 14000 TEU containership that will commence a fixed rate charter with Yang Ming Marine Transport Corp. for a ten-year term with an option to extend for an additional two years. The new containership, which was constructed at CSBC Corporation, Taiwan (“CSBC”), is the ninth 14000 TEU SAVER design containership to join Seaspan’s fleet, and expands the company’s operating fleet to 89 vessels. Seaspan has entered into a sale leaseback transaction for the YM Wind which provides gross proceeds of approximately $144 million.
Yang Ming charters two new 14,000-TEU ships
Taiwan carrier Yang Ming will charter the YM Wind from Hong Kong's Seaspan and YM Wreath from GC Intermodal Operating (HK) Limited in an effort to grow its overall fleet while reducing average vessel age, Yang Ming said in a statement.Yang Ming said it will charter two new ships which were named May 18 at a ceremony at Taiwan's CSBC Kaohsiung Shipyard, said the company."With the deployment of these new vessels, Yang Ming gets more strength in the competitive market," said a company statement.The two ships will be deployed in services operated by THE Alliance, Yang Ming's vessel sharing partnership with Hapag-Lloyd of Germany and Japanese carriers NYK, MOL and "K" Line.The two ships are the last of five being built for Yang Ming and both will be managed by Seaspan.
