Captain medevaced in Japan Sea
The 'Yasa Jupiter', en route from Nantong to Port Rupert, requested medical assistance after the Turkish captain fell ill on Nov 4, 2022, in the Tsugaru Strait. The patient was medevaced by a Japanese MRCC helicopter and transferred to hospital. On Nov 5 the bulk carrier called at Hakodate anchorage, where a new captain came on board. The ship left Hakodate the same day with an ETA at the port of destination as of Nov 17.
Medevac off San Juan
The crew of a Coast Guard Air Station Borinquen helicopter medevaced a crewmember from the 'Yasa Jupiter' approximately 60 nautical miles northeast of San Juan, Puerto Rico on June 13, 2020. Watchstanders at Coast Guard San Juan received the medevac request in the night of June 12 as a 26-year-old crewmember was suffering from abdominal pain. The 'Yasa Jupiter' was enroute from Casablanca to Cristobal in a position approximately 360 nautical miles northeast of Puerto Rico, outside the range of responding rescue helicopters. San Juan watchstanders requested the 'Yasa Jupiter' to continue making way towards Puerto Rico to shorten the distance for the medevac. An MH-65 Dolphin helicopter from Air Station Borinquen launched to meet the 'Yasa Jupiter' at the rendezvous location. Upon arriving on scene, the helicopter crew lowered their rescue swimmer, along with a rescue basket, to hoist the patient aboard the aircraft. The Coast Guard helicopter crew safely hoisted the patient onboard with the assistance of the ship’s crew and transported the patient to the Fernando Luis Ribas Dominicci Airport in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Emergency Medical Service personnel received and transported the crewmember to the “Centro Médico” Hospital to receive the required medical care.
