Breached bulkcarrier being patched up
On Nov 17, 2018, whilst inbound on the Escravos River bound for Wari Port, Nigeria, and laden with a cargo of wheat, the "Efi Theo" was in collision with the Liberian bulkcarrier "Arvika" (IMO: 9624043) and was breached at starboard side. The vessel encountered a flooded cargo hold and subsequently grounded. The owners entered into a LOF salvage agreement with Greece based Salvors Five Ocean Salvage, whom invoked the SCOPIC Clause. The bulkcarrier was grounded in the Bight of Benin in pos. 05° 35.22' N 005° 22.82' E. A salvage team of 27 arrived on board the vessel on Dec 5 and started working to fabricate and install a patch to make cargo hold No. 3 watertight. The hold will then be pumped free of water in readiness for a refloating attempt. After this succeded, the ship reached Warri on Dec 22. The "Arvika" left Escravos on Dec 2 and headed to Singapore, ETA Dec 31. Report with photo and video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vn-evZF-11Y https://www.salvageconsultancy.com/en/projects
