Fire on gas tanker off Finland
A fire broke out in the engine room of the "Yara Gas II" in the Gulf of Finland on July 19, 2013. The ship's crew managed to extinguish the fire on their own. The gas tanker was on the way to Porvoo and was empty. The ship was around 25 km southeast of Helsinki lighthouse when the fire broke out at 6.30 p.m. The Coast Guard patrol boat "Merikarhu" and a rescue helicopter were sent to rescue. A task force was sent to the ship to examine whether it could proceed with own power or was in Need of towing assistance.
