13 crew saved from bulker after collision with container ship

Wed Dec 18 13:38:40 CET 2013 Timsen

On Dec 15, 2013, the "COSCO Ningbo" was involved in a collision with the China-flagged bulk carrier "Ding Yao Jing Sheng" off the Yangtze River mouth in the East China Sea. The bulker took in water and started tilting. The 13 crew members of the ship which was operating on coastal trades, were saved by the rescue ship "Donghaijiu 117" of the Donghai Rescue Bureau at 7:30 a.m. The bulker had been enroute from Ningbo in the Zhejuan Province to Lianyungang in the Jiangsu Province. Also the passing vessel "Hua Xiang 628" assisted. The saved crew members were later transferred to a patrol boat of the Shanghai Maritime Safety Administration. The rescue ship has been ordered to stay at the accident scene and guard the damaged bulker.
