Two injured crew members medevaced

Fri May 19 12:18:31 CEST 2023 Timsen

The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) medevaced two crew members who suffered severe burn injuries on board the 'Xante' off Kochi on May 18, 2023. They were identified as Ambrose Antony (48) and Pradeep Jaiswal (32). Both the sailors were Indians and had suffered critical second-degree burns while working in the engine room of the ship, which was en route from RAK Maritime City, UAE, to Chennai with an ETA as of May 22. A medical distress call was received by MRCC in Mumba and forwarded to ICG in Kochi around 7 a.m., following which the rescue operation was launched. The Coast Guard vessel 'C-162' left from Kochi headed to the tanker, which was around 30 nautical miles away. The medical team embarked for transfer of the injured persons from the tanker. They suffered burns after the hot lubricant oil accidently fell on their hands. The patients were brought to the Coast Guard Jetty at Kochi at around 9 a.m. and transported to a private hospital.
