Ship arrived in Kolkata after fire
On Sep 29 at 9.30 a.m. the 'X Press Godavari' arrived in the port of Kolkata. The Indian Coast Guard had responded with the ICGS 'Varad', ICGS 'Amogh', ICGS 'Amritkaur' and a Dornier Aircraft for surveillance. The Coastguard asssets commenced FireFighting with boundary cooling at the anchorage off Sandheads, which is over a 100 kilometers away from the Haldia port in West Bengal, and managed to douse the smouldering fire at port side. In the evening, a fourth Coast Guard vessel joined the scene and efficiently doused the blaze. Later, the assets undertook boundary cooling operations to forestall re-ignition. Boundary cooling is carried out to decrease the temperature to prevent the fire from re-igniting. Fire off Sandheads
On Sep 28, 2020, a fire broke out in the deck cargo of the 'X-press Godavari' which was moored at the anchorage off Sandheads, West Bengal, with 506 containers on board. Smoke was billowing from the containers. The last port of call was Kelang, and the next port was Kolkata. The ship had 15 crew members, among them four Indians. The Coastguard vessel ICGS 'Amogh' and a Dornier aircraft were quickly on scene. The ICGS 'Amrit Kaur' and 'Varad' were proceeding to the area for further assistance.The fire could be brought under control. Cooling work was going on.
