Barge grounded near Karlsruhe
The "Wiljo", 1284 ts (EU-Nr.: 02323388), ran aground on the Rhine near Karlsruhe in the afternoon of June 26, 2019, sailing downstream with a cargo of gravel. The ship had got out of the fairway and allided with groynes at the shore before getting stuck with a list to port. The Rhine was timewise barred for ship traffic while the fire rescue, DLRG, police Karlsruhe and the river authority attended. The ban was lifted after the investigations, as the ship was not hampering traffic. On June 27 at 9.20 a.m. the river was closed again while the dredger ‘OHF 142‘ started lighering part of the 1.225 tons of cargo onto the barges ‘Roxy‘ and ‘Futura‘. The "Wiljo" meanwhile had a water ingress, which could be coped with the ship's own pumps. After more than 200 tons of gravel were unloaded, the ship could be refloated and was taken alongside by the KVB "Roxy" (MMSI: 244670515), and towed to the ciy port of Karslruhe. The ship traffic on the Rhine remained barred at the accident site for the time being.
