Iranian forces boarded tanker
On Aug 12, 2020, Iranian forces gained access to the 'Wila' as it was on its way in the Persian Gulf bound to the anchorage of Khor Fakkan in the United Arab Emirates. Iranian naval forces also approached two other tankers before striking Wila. They consisted of two ships and a Sea King helicopter which took over and boarded the 'Wila' about 23 nautical miles northwest of Khor Fakkan. The tanker later continued its voyage and dropped aanchor on Fujairah Anchorage at 10.15 p.m. The background for the Iranian action may be that the ship was under the management of a Greek shipping company that may have a direct or indirect connection to Iran regarding the transport of oil. It was speculated that with the action, Iran wanted to send a signal to the Greek shipping companies, which have bowed to US pressure not to participate in the transportation of Iranian oil. Tanker disabled off Lavrio
The "Wila" suffered a mechanical damage in Aegean Sea south of Makronissos island, while sailing in northeastern direction, coming from Curacao, in the afternoon of Feb 28, 2019. A tug and a Greek patrol boat escorted the tanker to Lavrio, where it was safely moored in the marine area south of Macronisos s in pos. 37° 43.14' N 024° 5.46' E. The tanker was unloaded and had a crew of 19 on board. The crew managed to fix the damage, but the port authority detained the ship until the submission of a certificate of seaworthiness by the classification society that monitors it. The ship called at Piraeus from March 3 to April 4. It sailed at 11.20 a.m., bound to Suez, where it arrived on April 9 at 3.50 p.m.
