Engineer fined for water pollution
During a control aboard the "Viden" in the Elbe Port on Dec 6, 2018, the water police of Brunsbüttel found that the "Viden" had pumped its untreated sewage into German territorial waters. An investigation and a security deposit were the consequence. There was not enough maintenance of the wastewater treatment plant. The plant was heavily polluted. Furthermore, the wrong disinfectant was in use. As a result, the ship was suspected to have discharged wastewater which was not disinfected as required. The Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency imposed a security deposit of 800 Euros against the 1st engineer for the violation of the marine environment code. The ship left the port on Dec 7 at 6.30 p.m., bound to Kandalaksha, ETA Dec 16.
