Tanker sank yacht on the New Maas - two dead
In the morning of Oct 16, 2013, the "Werner Reich" was in collision with the Swiss yacht "Bolero" on the New Maas which sank immediately. It had been underway from Rotterdam to Dordrecht. On board was a family of three from St. Gallen in Thurgau. The daughter aged 20 saved herself by jumping over board. A fast ferry tried to save her father too, but he disappeared before he could be pulled aboard. The body of the father was recovered 500 meters from the accident site later. Divers searched the wreck of the "Bolero" but did not find the mother. The wreck of the boat was recovered from a depth of 11 meters after some technical difficulties by the crane ship "Jumbo" on Oct 17 and taken to an area of Rijkswaterstaat in Dordrecht.
