Destroyer rescued 18 people off San Diego

Tue Apr 01 11:00:07 CEST 2025 Timsen

The USS 'Spruance (DDG 111)' rescued 17 migrants and an American national aboard a disabled and adrift vessel approximately 50 miles southwest of San Diego on April 30, 2025. A 35–foot vessewas spotted in international waters taking on water and requesting assistance around 7:55 a.m. The 'Spruance' launched a 7-meter rigid hull inflatable boat to assist. The 18 people were rescued from the water and safely aboard the destroyer. Watchstanders from Coast Guard Sector San Diego then launched an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter aircrew to transport the castaways from the 'Spruance' to the Coast Guard Sector San Diego. They were brought to Sector San Diego over two separate flights due to passenger constraints and then transferred to Department of Homeland Security partners. Two destroyers attacked by Houthi terrorists

Wed Nov 13 11:29:24 CET 2024 Timsen

Two Navy destroyers came under attack by missiles and drones launched by Houthi rebels while they were sailing through a strait located between Yemen and Djibouti on Nov 11, 2024, according to the Pentagon. During the transit, the USS 'Stockdale' and USS 'Spruance' were attacked by at least eight one-way attack uncrewed aerial systems, five anti-ship ballistic missiles and three anti-ship cruise missiles. The two destroyers used missiles to thwart the incoming attack, and the Navy's contribution to the retaliatory strike included F-35C Lightning II fighter aircraft.. The Navy and Air Force responded overnight with "a series of precise airstrikes, which targeted multiple Houthi weapon storage facilities that housed a variety of advanced conventional weapons to target U.S. and international military and civilian vessels navigating international waters in the Red Sea.
