Container ship involved in rescue operation for 30 fishermen
The "APL Illinios" was contacted by the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (APMM) personnel after the sinking of a tuna fishing vessel "Jin-Shan-Mei" from Taiwan which was ferrying tuna and other species of fishes, which sank after collision with a container ship on Sep 12, 2013, at 10.40 p.m.in Malaysia-Indonesia international waters, some 18 nautical miles southwest of Pulau Jarak. The fishermen - a Taiwanese, 11 Chinese nationals and four each Vietnamese and Indonesians, as well as five Koreans and Philippines - were on their way from Capetown in South Africa to Singapore. All the them, aged between 23 and 45, escaped unhurt using two rafts. Two hours later, the vessel sank. About 12.30 a.m., an SAR operation was launched involving the Coastguard vessel "Tugau".They were taken to the Kampung Acheh Customs Jetty. The sunken vessel was underway from Capetown to Singapore.
