Freighter in danger of bumping against the bridge after salvage
The "Volgo-Balt 244" was refloated in the morning of Oct 7 but was close to colliding with the Aggersund bridge when it had to be turned towards Thisted into the fairway. It passed the Aggersund bridge in a distance of only 100 meters. Workers fled from the bridge when the ship was closing in. High tide as a salvage opportunity
In the morning of Oct 7 an attempt was to be made to pull the "Volgo Balt 244" free off Løgstør which was grounded in the Limfjord the day before. Due to a high tide, a tug was to take the chance without the otherwise required salvage plan. It was still unclear what caused the coaster to run agroudn but it looked like the captain lost control of the ship, which then got stuck on the soft sandy bottom. Grounding in the Limfjord
Bound from Gdynia to Thisted where a cargo of malt was to be loaded, the "Volgo Balt 244" ran aground in the Limfjord off Løgstør on Oct 6, 2011, at 3 p.m. The anti pollution vessel "Mette Miljø" was sent, no spill reported. A salvage plan is to be approved now. The captain was routinely drug tested. No salvage date was fixed yet.
