Detained ship released after fine was paid
After the master of the "Volgo Balt 227" paid a fine imposed by the Coast Guard of the Border Police of Georgia, the ship was released on Oct 11. The fine was imposed in connection with an incident involving marine pollution. The ship was detained at Poti Port's fourth berth. The ship's captain was fined 65,000 Georgian laris. The court also ordered him to pay the environmental damage which was amounting to 922 laris. After paying the fine, the ship was granted the right of free navigation.
Cambodian vessel detained for polluting sea in Georgia
Georgian border guards have detained a vessel under the Cambodian flag, the Border Police of Georgia told press on Tuesday. The VOLGOBALT- 227 vessel was detained for polluting the sea in the waters of Poti port. Administrative proceedings were launched with respect to the ship's captain who is an Azerbaijani citizen. Poti Court has laid an obligation on him to pay 65,000 lari ($1 = 1.66 lari) in the form of fine and 922 lari for damage to the environment.
