Collision on Volga river

On May 17, 2022, at 5 p.m. the 'Volgo Balt 203' was in collision with the barge 'Saratov 2529' which was being towed by the tug 'Shluzovoy 57' on the Volga river. Both vessels were carrying a cargo of crushed stone. The cargo ship suffered a small hole and dents at the port side above the waterline. No water ingress nor pollution were reported. The accident was caused by a steering gear failure.Investigators of the prosecutor's office initiated a check, based on the results of which a decision was to be made on further procedural measures. Captain of VOLGOBALT-203 fined for $40,000 for waterpollution in Georgia

The court has decided to fine a captain of a Russian ship, who had been detained in the Georgian port of Poti for 40 thousand dollars, Interfax reports referring to the Georgian border police. Georgian border guards detained the cargo ship "Volgo-balt 203," operating under the flag of Cambodia for polluting the waters of the sea port of Poti.
