Rescued crew repatriated

On March 18, the Ukrainian sailors from the crew of the 'Volgo Balt 179', accompanied by employees of the Ukrainian Embassy in Romania, arrived at the border crossing point of Reni. After registration of entry to the territory of the state, Ukrainian citizens were to go in an organized manner to Odesa, where they will be met by representatives of the operator of the sunken ship. The state of health of all ten rescued sailors was satisfactory. During their stay on the territory of Romania, the sailors were provided with everything necessary and underwent appropriate medical and preventive procedures to organize their safe transportation to Ukraine. Besides the ten sailors who were rescued, two sailors died, and one was considered missing.

Fregate ended search for missing seafarers

The fregate 'Regina Maria' ended its search for the missing members of the "Volgo Balt 179" in the evening of March 12, and continues its travel in the Black Sea to join, during the night, the Permanent Naval Group of the North Atlantic Alliance SNMG-2 (Standing NATO Maritime Group). The ship handed over to the Coast Guard ship 'MAI 0201' the command of the search operation in the areas indicated by the Maritime Coordination Centre Constanta (MRCC), the coordinating structure of search operations. 10 rescued Ukrainian crew members remained at the Emergency County Clinical Hospital Constanta.

Search for two missing seafarers continued

After the sinking of the ‘Volgo-Balt 179‘ 70 nautical miles from Constanta, the ‘Artemida‘ of the ARSVOM was ordered to the accident site to search for the two missing crew members. Another of the Ukrainian sailors did not survive the accident and was recovered from the sea by the ‘Falcon. The remaining 10 were rushed to hospital after being rescued. The only woman on board was being treated for injuries but was in stable condition. The ship had issued a mayday call in stormy seas on March 10 at 8 a.m. around 75 nautical miles from the port of destination. She sank to position 44 37 52 N, 032 48 51 E, about 26.2 nautical miles from Sevastopol anchorage.
