Company demanding €600,000 from the owner of the 'Vladimir Latyshev'
A company is demanding €600,000 from the owner of the 'Vladimir Latyshev', which has been detained in Saint-Malo on March 1, 2022, after the start of the Russian war in Ukraine. The ship was to deliver steel coils to Algiers. On April 16, 2024, the Saint-Malo commercial court had to resolve the financial dispute between the buyer of the goods transported by the ship at the time of its immobilization and two Russian companies, the owner and the operator.
Ship stuck in Saint Malo for two years
The 'Vladimir Latyshev' aling with its seven sailors has been stranded in Saint-Malo for two years after being immobilized in response to Putin's invasion of Ukraine in Feb 2022. Since March 1, 2022, the bulk carrier has been stuck in the Vauban basin of Saint-Malo at the Jacques-Cartier quay after its arrival from St. Petersburg on Feb 28 with a cargo of 440 tons of magnesia and copper coils, which was seized too.
Detained Russian ship blocks space for Route du Rhum
The Brittany region on Sep 11, 2022, has asked the prefecture that the "Vladimir Latyshev", blocked since March in Saint-Malo, in Ile-et-Vilaine, be moved to another port as the start of the Route du Rhum. The Russian ship was detained as part of the sanctions against Russia after the invasion of the Ukraine. The port of Saint-Malo must host the start of the Route du Rhum, with 138 boats taking part in the Queen of the Transatlantic races and a departure from the city scheduled for Nov 6. The request of the Region, as the owner of the port, was that the ship be placed in a state, civil or military port. The crew of the ship is less than ten people who are not stuck on board. The vessel has no more cargo on board, the magnesia having been delivered. The copper coils, which were to be unloaded in the Maghreb, were transferred to another cargo ship before the summer.
