Ferry adrift off La Savina
The "Virot" suffered engine failure on Nov 14, 2016, while en route from Ibiza to Formentera off Trucadors around 7.30 p.m. and started to drift about two miles off La Savina, Formentera. An attempt to drop anchor failed due to the depth of the sea. Due to the strong wind in the area the ship was threatened to be pushed on rocks. The ferry which had 66 tons bunker fuel on board was taken in tow by the tug "Paula S" of Remolcanosa at 9 p.m. and pulled back with a speed of two knots to Ibiza, arriving there on Nov 15 at 3 a.m. The convoy was assisted by the "Blau de Formenteera" which had been on standby until the tug arrived, and the "Maverick Dos". The salvage was coordinated and supervised by the "Salvamar Markab" of the Spanish company Salvamento Marítimo. The ship was berthed at the docks of Botafoc for inspections by the operator Baleària. The ship was expected to be repaired in Ibiza.
