River cruise ship allided with bridge
On Oct 24, 2018, at 9.05 p.m. the "Viking Tor", being en route from Budapest to Nurenberg, allided with a bridge over the Altmühl at the lock in Riedenburg in the Kelheim municipality. The master had forgotten to lower the wheelhouse so that it crashed against the bridge and was destroyed. The roof was torn off and landed on the deck. The master could escape in time. The damage was estimated to be around 50.000 Euro. Neither the almost 200 passengers nor the crew of 50 were injured. The wheelhouse had to be removed after the accident, and the ship was disabled and had to remain on site. The passengers were offered bus tours to Nurenberg, before their reutrn was organized. The bridge only suffered scratches but remained to be investigated thoroughly. Viking Tor reached repair yard
On June 22 around 5 a.m the "Viking Tor" (EU-No.: 07001962) left the West Port in Regensburg after temporary repairs which made her seaworthy for a trip to Linz where she docked at the Öswag Yard on June 23 around 4 a.m.
Hull to be surveyed in Linz after repairs in Regensburg
The "Viking Tor" berthed in the West Port of Regensburg on June 19 at 8.30 p.m. for repairs before proceeding to the yard in Linz where the hull will be thoroughly surveyed on shore. The amount of damage could not yet be assessed. The ship was expected to be able to start the next cruise in Budapest as scheduled.
