Viking ship in allision
On June 5, 2019, at 8.10 p.m. the ‘Viking Tir‘, enroute from Regensburg to Amsterdam, allided with the sheet piling of the lock gate in Riedenburg on the Main-Danube Canal. When the Dutch skipper tried to enter the lock shortly before Riedenburg, it hit the wall with the port side at the level of the lock gate. As a result, a spar was severely damaged, and the gate could no longer be closed. The repair of the lock was likely to last two to three weeks, according to estimates by the Water and Shipping Authority Riedenburg. During this time, ship traffic in the area had to be stopped. Currently, two other ships were affected in addition to the passenger ship. The total amount of damage was still unclear. The "Viking Tir" turned around after the accident and returned to Regensburg on June 6 t 10.30 p.m. It was now headed to Budapest with an ETA as of Juen 13. The canal will remain barred for shipping at least until end of next week.
