Grounding near Woodland
The "Viking Emerald" lost its steering and ran aground on Nov 14, 2015, at 4.30 p.m. at near Woodland, Washington, en route from Tacoma to Portland. The vessel was refloated several hours later with the help of tugs of Foss Maritime. Around 7:30 p.m. they started making some progress on getting the bow of the ship out of the muck and turned toward the deeper portion of the river. After it was finally freed, it was towed to Terminal 6 in Portland on Nov 15 around 7 a.m. Reports with photos and videos: http://www.oregonlive.com/pacific-northwest-news/index.ssf/2015/11/cargo_ship_aground.html http://www.katu.com/news/local/Ship-runs-aground-on-the-Columbia-River-349236171.html http://koin.com/2015/11/14/giant-cargo-ship-runs-aground-in-columbia-river/ http://www.kgw.com/story/news/local/washington/2015/11/14/cargo-ship-runs-aground-near-columbia-city/75802836/
