One passenger injured, cabin cruiser damaged while avoiding collision

Wed Sep 04 09:56:47 CEST 2013 Timsen

In the afternoon of Sep 3, 2013, the "Viking Aegir" ran into the embankment of the Main at Collenberg, Miltenberg municipality, while trying to avoid the collision with a yet unidentified Belgian barge at a narrow. One passenger from Florida, aged 80 years, was hit by the branches of a tree and injured. He was medically treated on scene and then taken to the Miltenberg hospital. The ship suffered damage to its starboard side bow. Also several windows of the sun terrace split, and the hull suffered several scratches and dents. The damage was estimated to be around 50.000 Euro. The "Viking Aegir" was enroute from Budapest to Amsterdam with 185 passengers from the USA, England and Canada. It had sailed from Wertheim to Koblenz at 1 p.m., but 1,5 kilometers off the Freudenberg lock the other ship approached so that the master of the cabin cruiser was forced to alter course and ran onto the shore. At 7 p.m. the ship resumed its voyage to Koblenz after having been refloated and surveyed. The police Aschaffenburg launched an investigation.
