Collision off Nes

Thu Feb 02 10:22:22 CET 2017 Timsen

On Jan 31, 2017 at 7 a.m. the "Vigilant" of the Veltman Marine Services was in collision with the dredger "Nova Venture", 908 ts (ENI-No.: 02011928) off Nes. The "Vigilant" was en route from Holwerd to Nes to transfer passengers from the holiday resort Klein Vaarwater. The skipper reacted quickly and could turn away the boat at the last moment to prevent a frontal collision after attempts to get in contact with the dredger which was on collision course failed. The water taxi had 11 passengers on board and was heavily damaged. Some of the passengers suffered minor injuries. The passengers took care of each other. The skipper managed to return the vessel under its own power to the ferry pt. at Nes. Two passengers were taken to hospital in Leeuwarden. The 25-year-old man from Engelum and a 41-year old man from Tytsjerk have since been released. The accident was being investigated by the national unit - formerly the water police. The "Vigilant" was being repaired at the shipyard in Harlingen. When the vessel would return to service was not yet known.
