Damaged tanker to be lightered
The operation to pump oil products from the "VF Tanker-16" to a lighter tanker was due to start on June 19. The product tanker "VF Tanker-18" has moored alongside the "VF Tanker-16", which was damaged in an explosion at the port of Makhachkala, on June 11. Pumping was expected to commence shortly.
Three died in explosion
On June 11, 2019, at 4.30 a.m. an explosion rocked the engine room of the "VF Tanker 16" in the port of Machatschkala in Dagestan. The explosion was followed by smoke in the residential areas of the superstructure. The crew was evacuated, and nine were taken ashore, the other three were taken to local medical facilities. Three emergency officers who were on board the tanker died during the incident. After the arrival of the Emergency and Disaster Response (EDR) team all three were pronounced dead on scene. Special services were on site and the investigation was ongoing after the fire was put out. The accident happened during pumping off a cargo of crude oil. There was no risk of an oil spill in the port of Makhachkala. The shipping company provided all possible assistance with the investigation of the causes of the accident and the situation in the area. Control panel caught fire
A generator’s control panel aboard the "VF Tanker 16" caught fire on Apr 17, 2017, at 5.30 p.m. The ship was six miles off the Volna Oil Terminal, Kerch, in the Black Sea. The fire was quickly extinguished, the damaged parts of generator could be fixed or replaced, and on Apr 18 at 4.45 p.m. the master reported that the generator was operable again.
